read Hush for the first time. it was good. i think in terms of story it's a noticeable tier below the really high-end batman stuff. the art however is some of the best he's had. i picked up the absolute edition because "like new" on amazon they're not that expensive. it was worth it. the art is big and bold and perfect for the format. i think i'd describe the style as dark and bold as opposed to the dark and gritty batman often gets. the result is a lot of really great spreads. i think they could have made better use of the comic format, there are fewer interesting panels than I'd like (there is a good spread near the end of the book where two scenes play out in separate panels on the same page) but overall it's a stunning book. some very mild spoilers on why i felt the story fell short. there are a bunch of small problems which add up. 1- there are a lot of pointless characters added in to pad the issues/character appearances. i loveeee long halloween and i felt the large cast was key there. here i think that while you didn't want a small cast you have too many actors 2- DC continuity (vomit, vomit, vomit) crops up too much. i really, really don't want to know that lex luthor is the POTUS or have POTUS lex luthor in any way involved in the story 3- the ending and the big reveal were kind of fizzles, i felt like the last issue was just something of a let down overall i'd say 5/5 art, 3.5/5 story, a bit north of 4/5 overall. well worth reading but not at the top of batman canon.
