Looking for Alaska

Review

This was kind of a strange book. In a way it's a very formulaic book. It's about a passive high school protagonist living a life driven by their much more charismatic friends. Setting it at a co-ed boarding school is a great move and gives the book a lot of room to tell the story. Books like this are very much about being in high school and transporting the entirety of the story to high school helps with that. Where it gets weird is that the book does have a climax somewhere in the middle of the book and after that it takes quite the change in tone. I think that post-climax the book is weaker but more interesting.
